Frequently Asked Questions

Who will be training our horses?

We place our horses with proven, high-quality trainers who consistently produce results.

Allan Sharrock
Based in New Plymouth, Allan Sharrock is one of New Zealand’s most respected trainers, known for his strong strike-rate and ability to develop horses efficiently. Sharrock Racing operates out of Pukekura Raceway as well as a private rural training property, providing an excellent balance of professional facilities and a calm, low-stress environment for horses.

Mark Walker (Te Akau Racing)
Mark Walker, training in partnership with Sam Bergerson, is one of the most successful trainers in New Zealand racing history. He is a six-time New Zealand Champion Trainer and a four-time Champion Trainer in Singapore.
Mark was the first trainer to surpass 200 winners in a single New Zealand season (finishing with 203), recorded the fastest 100 winners ever, and has trained over 100 stakes winners.

What are the training facilities like?

Sharrock Racing – New Plymouth
Sharrock Racing is based at New Plymouth Raceway, a quieter training centre compared to Cambridge or Matamata. This offers a relaxed environment with excellent grass tracks and minimal congestion. The location also provides easy access to both North Island and Central Districts racing.

Te Akau Racing – Matamata
Te Akau’s New Zealand base is located at the Matamata Training Centre. The operation houses approximately 700 horses across four dedicated barns. Horses also have access to a 12-acre post-and-rail paddock facility adjacent to the racecourse for daily turnout.
Facilities include modern treadmills, walkers, and access to a professional water treadmill service, allowing highly individualised training programs.

Are you an authorised syndicator?

Yes. Inspire Racing is an authorised syndicator under New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing.

What are the ongoing monthly costs?

Monthly costs vary slightly depending on the trainer.

  • Allan Sharrock: approximately $185 per month for a 5% share

  • Te Akau Racing: approximately $230 per month for a 5% share

These costs are structured to cover the majority of ongoing expenses, including training, routine veterinary care, spelling, and management.
If unforeseen or extraordinary costs arise, a capital call may be required, though this is uncommon.

How many shares can I own? Are there extra costs for larger shares?

Shares range from 1% through to 100%, and there are no additional charges for owning larger percentages.

Can my name appear in the racebook?

If a syndicate has fewer than 20 owners and your ownership exceeds 5%, your name can be listed in the racebook.

Whose colours will the horse race in?

All horses race in Inspire Racing’s registered colours.

Is my horse eligible for the Karaka Millions?

Horses purchased through New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sales are eligible for:

  • Karaka Millions 2YO

  • Karaka Millions 3YO

  • Karaka Millions 4YO Series

  • The Million Maiden Series (if applicable)

What happens if the horse receives a significant offer?

Any serious offer will be considered. The Racing Manager has discretion to accept an offer if it is deemed in the best interests of the syndicate, following discussion with owners where appropriate.

Are there additional costs above the purchase price?

Yes. Additional costs typically include:

  • GST

  • Insurance (covering death and major incidents)

  • Karaka Million / Pearl Series fees (if applicable)

  • Sales and research fees

Inspire Racing’s commission structure is among the lowest in Australasia.

How much communication will I receive?

When your horse is in work, you can expect weekly updates, often more frequently.
When spelling, updates are typically provided twice per month.

Can I visit my horse?

Absolutely. Owners are encouraged to visit their horses by appointment with the stable.

Is my horse physically sound?

Every horse syndicated by Inspire Racing undergoes a stringent veterinary examination prior to purchase.
All veterinary certificates are lodged with New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing.

Who selects the horses?

Horse selection is conducted by Matthew Corban, in consultation with the relevant trainer and, where appropriate, a registered bloodstock agent. Each horse goes through a detailed inspection and research process before purchase.

Can I own shares across multiple horses?

Yes. You can split ownership across multiple horses, and there are no additional fees for doing so. Many owners find this approach both enjoyable and risk-efficient.

Who can I contact about my horse?

You can contact Matthew Corban directly by phone or email at any time.
Owners are also kept informed through regular updates as key developments occur.
